At GYM on 20 Oct 2010, I initiated these two into the game of chess to enlarge the circle of chess players at GYM.
Here's Jimmy and me:
And here's Aloysius learning the Ruy Lopez opening.
And here's my regular kaki William: we played to a draw continuing from Aloysius's middle game.

16: The Champion School in International Chess - 1966
The Singapore Chess Federation (SCF) began to take an interest in promoting International Chess in non-English stream schools in mid 1960s, and so a tournament was organized for non-English stream secondary schools to participate.
I sent in this team from Thomson Govt Chinese Middle School, and they emerged as the Champion School in the Inaugural Inter-School Chess Tournament for Non-English Stream Schools in 1966.

14: Me as Teacher i/c Chess in 1961
It was 1961 when I was Assistant Chessmaster in Serangoon English School in Simon Road. The little black patch on my right sleeve indicated that I was in mourning (for my grandmother). Later I was made Chessmaster from 1961-1962.

I remember having my team take part in Inter-school Chess Tournaments. One of our favourite opponents was St Andrew's Sec School led by Koh Seh Hian.

13: Recalling a Chess Champion
I recall having met Prof Lim Kok Ann at the Singapore Chess Club which was located at the YMCA in Orchard Road in the 1960s. Wow - half a century ago.
I was then in my 20s and just learning to play chess. Later, when Singapore was in Malaysia, Prof Lim rang me to suggest that we go to KL to organise a Pan Malaysian Chess Federation. But it was not to be as Singapore was kicked out of Malaysia. Still, I have fond memories of Prof Lim because of his encouraging and nurturing personality in the pursuit of the game of chess.
At the Singapore Chess Club in YMCA I also met Tan Lian Ann and Giam Choo Kwee, the chess stalwarts of the day. Later Lian Ann was conferred the title of International Master by FIDE.
In 1995 I met Prof Lim again, this time at the Inaugural National Veterans Chess Championship in which he emerged as the Champion. I took 6th placing.( See below for the trophy: )
2: Where I now play chess
Nowadays I play chess at GYM (Glowing Years Ministry) at PMC.

1: My Chess Daze launched on 11 Sep 2010
This blog serves to help me recollect my fun days with chess.
The trophy above was the last one I got at a tournamant. It was held at the Serangoon Garden Country Club in 1995 - ie fifteen years ago! Yes, that was fun. The champion that year was Prof Lim Kok Ann.
